SoccerMatters

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 October 2026

This policy explains how SoccerMatters (“we”, “us” or “our”) handles personal data when you use the SoccerMatters website, Android or iOS app, or Wear OS companion app (together, the “Service”).

1. Who is responsible for your data

SoccerMatters is responsible for the personal data described in this policy. Questions or privacy requests can be sent to admin@soccermatters.com.

2. Data we collect

  • Account and profile data: name, nickname, email address, mobile number, account role, password in hashed form, avatar, availability, playing positions and skill information.
  • Team and match data: team membership, attendance and wait-list responses, line-ups, scores, statistics, votes, match notes and highlights, fees, credits and payment-status records.
  • Applications and enquiries: information submitted when joining a team, requesting a trial, suggesting a field or contacting us.
  • Location-related information: match and field addresses, map links and any location details you choose to provide. SoccerMatters does not need continuous background device location.
  • Device and notification data: device platform, push-notification token, notification delivery status and preferences needed to send alerts.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser or device information, timestamps and security or diagnostic logs that may be recorded by our hosting infrastructure.
  • Watch data: match details, team information and live match events shared with a paired Wear OS device. Authentication credentials are stored using protected device storage.

3. How we use data

  • Provide accounts, team management, match invitations, attendance, line-ups and results.
  • Track player statistics, match fees, credits and team expenses.
  • Send service messages, emails and optional push notifications.
  • Provide maps, field information and match-day weather.
  • Generate match stories when that feature is used. Match facts, including team and player names, scores, highlights and coach-recorded moments, may be sent to an AI service to draft the story.
  • Secure, maintain, troubleshoot and improve the Service and prevent misuse.
  • Comply with legal obligations and resolve disputes.

4. Our legal bases

Where European data-protection law applies, we process data when:

  • it is necessary to provide the Service you requested or take steps at your request;
  • we have a legitimate interest in operating, securing and improving SoccerMatters;
  • you have given consent, such as for optional device notifications; or
  • we must comply with a legal obligation.

5. When data is shared

Information needed to organise football is visible to the relevant team members and coaches. For example, players may see team membership, attendance, line-ups, results and statistics, while authorised coaches may also see contact and team-finance information.

We also use service providers to operate specific parts of SoccerMatters, including:

  • hosting, database, backup and media-storage providers;
  • Expo for push-notification delivery and Resend for email delivery;
  • Google Maps and Open-Meteo for field, mapping and weather features; and
  • Groq for AI-generated match stories when that feature is used.

We may disclose information when required by law, to protect people or the Service, or as part of a business reorganisation. We do not sell personal data or use it for targeted advertising.

6. International processing

Some service providers may process data outside Ireland or the European Economic Area. Where required, we rely on recognised transfer safeguards or another lawful transfer mechanism.

7. Retention

We keep personal data while your account is active and for as long as reasonably needed to provide and secure the Service, maintain team and match records, resolve disputes and meet legal obligations. When data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it. Residual copies may remain temporarily in protected backups until those backups are replaced through the normal backup cycle.

8. Security

We use measures designed to protect data, including encrypted network connections, hashed passwords, access controls and protected credential storage on supported mobile and watch devices. No system can be guaranteed completely secure, so please protect your password and tell us if you suspect unauthorised access.

9. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or obtain a copy of your data, and to object to certain processing. You may withdraw consent where processing relies on it. Device notifications can also be disabled in your device settings.

Email admin@soccermatters.com to exercise a privacy right. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. If you are in Ireland or the EEA, you may also complain to your local supervisory authority, including the Irish Data Protection Commission.

10. Account deletion

Players can permanently delete their SoccerMatters account from the Profile page in the app or on the website. Sign-in credentials and personal details are removed, active team memberships end, and any match records that must remain for team-record integrity are anonymised as “Deleted Player”.

If you cannot sign in, request deletion by emailing admin@soccermatters.com from the address connected to your account with the subject “Delete my SoccerMatters account”. We may need to verify your identity before processing the request.

11. Children

SoccerMatters is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly permit them to create an account. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal data without appropriate authorisation.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as SoccerMatters changes. We will publish the revised version here and update the date above. We will provide additional notice when a material change requires it.
